The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) [on Mon 23.2.2015] announced it will revoke the registration of up to 1,400 charities for not lodging an Annual Information Statement for 2 consecutive years. The 1,400 “double defaulters” have 28 days to submit their 2013 and 2014 Annual Information Statements or they will have their charity status revoked on 30 March 2015.
ACNC Commissioner, Susan Pascoe AM, said double defaulters “have ignored repeated reminders and warnings and have persistently failed to comply”. The ACNC warned that an additional 7,000 double defaulters may have their charity status revoked by the ACNC “in the coming months”. The ACNC noted that charities that have their status revoked by the ACNC will lose access to Commonwealth charity tax concessions, such as income tax exemption, FBT rebates and GST concessions.
The full list of charities facing revocation is available on the ACNC website.
