The Commissioner has gazetted a notice announcing that the ATO will acquire details of entities receiving taxable payments from various local government Councils and Shire authorities throughout NSW, Vic, Qld, WA, SA, Tasmania, and the NT. The data-matching program covers the 2011 to 2014 financial years. The data will be electronically matched with certain ATO data holdings to identify non-compliance with lodgment and payment obligations under taxation law. Records relating to 20,000 to 40,000 individuals are expected to be matched. Note the notice replaces the previous notice (gazetted on 30 January 2013) which targeted entities providing contractor services to local government authorities.
