The Minister for Superannuation, on Thur 9.5.2013, announced the members of a Charter Group to help develop the Charter of Superannuation Adequacy and Sustainability and to establish the Council of Superannuation Custodians as announced in April 2013.
The members of the Charter Group include the Honourable Alan H Goldberg AO QC, Mr Ross Jones, Deputy Chair and Member of APRA, Mr Jeremy Cooper, Chairman, Retirement Income at Challenger Limited, Ms Elana Rubin, former Chair of AustralianSuper, and Mr Steve Tucker, former Chief Executive Officer of MLC.
Mr Shorten said the Council would act as an impartial, expert superannuation body designed to protect the integrity of the superannuation system and ensure the policy settings are consistent with the core objects, values and principles. The Minister also released a discussion paper to facilitate public consultation on the Charter. Mr Shorten said the Charter “is being developed against the core principles of certainty, adequacy, fairness and sustainability”.
The discussion paper and the terms of reference are available on the Treasury website.
COMMENTS on the paper are due by 21 June 2013.
