The Qld Office of State Revenue (OSR) has announced that it will be examining payroll tax compliance in the mining sector. The OSR said its compliance program will focus on workers who should be included in an employer’s payroll tax liability, because they are either employees or relevant contractors. It will also investigate employment agents in some instances.
The OSR noted that voluntary disclosures of payroll tax liabilities will generally attract a lower penalty than those that are found following an investigation. It said taxpayers who think they may have an unreported payroll tax liability should contact Kelly McKelvey, Manager, Client and Stakeholder Engagement via email: disclosures@osr.qld.gov.au – or tel: disclosures@osr.qld.gov.au.
