The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) Tue 3.12.2103, marked one year since its establishment with a look back at its first 12 months as the independent regulator of charities.  ACNC Commissioner, Susan Pascoe AM said that in the ACNC’s first year, 2,856 organisations had applied to be registered as charities, and 1,748 new charities were registered. She said the Commission had over 200,000 visits to the ACNC Register in the year.

“We have been particularly impressed by how well charities are doing at filling in their Annual Information Statement [AIS],” Ms Pascoe said. Almost 10,000 charities had completed, or were in the process of completing, their 2013 AIS. The majority of those that had submitted their AIS already were small charities – those with annual revenue of less than $250,000.
