The Tax Practitioners Board has released information for those applying to register or renew their registration as an individual tax agent. They will need to have enough relevant experience in providing tax agent services. Relevant experience can include work: as a registered tax agent; under the supervision and control of a registered tax agent; as a legal practitioner; of another kind approved by the Board. The information covers determining relevant experience, the amount of relevant experience, and demonstrating relevant experience.

The Board has also released information on recognition of prior learning for BAS agents. The Board says that, for registration or renewal of registration as an individual BAS agent, it will accept the following if they were obtained through a process of recognition of prior learning:

  • Certificate IV Financial Services (Bookkeeping);
  • Certificate IV Financial Services (Accounting);
  • higher awards than a Certificate IV in the field of bookkeeping or accounting.
