The Commissioner has announced that current Second Commissioner Law, Jennie Granger, has been appointed to the position of Director-General Compliance and Enforcement at Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) based in London. This role is responsible for educating and supporting those who need help in meeting their tax obligations, for taking action to bring in late returns and payments, and for pursuing those who seek to evade their taxes or commit fraud, using the full extent of the law. It includes a wide range of enforcement and compliance activities. With about 25,000 staff, HMRC Enforcement and Compliance includes Local Compliance, Criminal Investigation, Specialist Investigations, Risk & Intelligence, Debt Management and Banking. The commencement date with HMRC has yet to be settled but is expected to be within the next few months, Mr D’Ascenzo said.
