The Inspector-General of Taxation is calling for submissions to establish his new Work Program for 2012-13 and beyond.
Mr Noroozi said his office is allowed “unrestricted access to the ATO’s internal system, records and personnel” for the purpose of reviews.
Each review is subject to resourcing priorities and the potential for ministerial direction to review a particular matter of concern. Submissions will be treated with “the strictest confidence”. Further, where applicable, legal professional privilege will also be maintained in relation to any matters raised with the Inspector-General.
Mr Noroozi noted that during the course of reviews this year, a number of issues have been identified as potential review topics, including delayed income tax refunds, ATO interactions with the Australian Valuation Office, ATO’s use of client feedback questionnaires, ATO services and support for tax practitioners, Project Wickenby, etc.
SUBMISSIONS are due by 28 September 2012.
