According to a survey conducted by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and the ATO, tax practitioners have a healthy level of awareness of the TPB’s role and a broad understanding of the key elements of the tax agent services regime. The survey also indicated a high level of contact by practitioners with the TPB, particularly BAS agents.

However, it found 31% of the BAS agents and 13% of the tax agents who had contact with the TPB were looking for technical tax/BAS information of a general nature, and another 12% of BAS agents and 6% of tax agents were looking for technical information to assist a particular client. The Board said this is an area where tax practitioners may be misunderstanding the TPB’s role. The Board said it will use the findings of the survey to refine its communication and services for tax and BAS agents.
